As we approach the scary season, it’s time to celebrate, both young and old! We’ve put together some of our favourite spooky activities for you to enjoy.
Family fun this fall doesn’t have to only mean another trip to the pumpkin patch. Instead, head to some of our favourite places for special events that are a great way to get out of the house, enjoy the crisp air, and get in some family bonding time.
Pumpkins After Dark
Pumpkins After Dark is an annual event held at Country Heritage Park, full of fun and enchantment for the whole family. The outdoor event was formerly a drive-through of illuminated pumpkin sculptures but is now an hour-long walkthrough filled with music and special effects for everyone in the family.
Over 6,000 hand-carved pumpkins form more than 100 sculptures across the park, all illuminated after dark to show their beauty. Pumpkins After Dark also features live pumpkin carving demonstrations and fall treats and sweets for everyone.
Pumpkins After Dark is held from September 23 to November 5, from Thursdays to Sundays at Country Heritage Park in Milton, ON. For tickets and more information, visit their website.
Oakville Historical Society Ghost Walks
Oakville is a city rich with history, and the Oakville Historical Society makes it its mission to preserve local heritage and help bring it to life for residents and visitors alike.
Through their Ghost Walks, guided tours of historic buildings in downtown Oakville, they’re able to take you back into Olde Oakville in the 19th century, where you can encounter ghosts of the past and learn about their stories. The walks are fun for the whole family—they’re child friendly, but if your kids are too young to enjoy ghost stories, they’re still sure to have a blast exploring downtown Oakville.
Ghost walks are every evening from October 12 through October 29 except on Sundays. Walks are about an hour long, and end with light refreshments of apple cider and cookies at the Oakville Historical Society office inside the museum.
To get tickets for you and your family, or to join their waitlist, visit the Oakville Historical Society website.
Oakville Haunted House
Oakville is lucky to have a long-running family tradition of creating a spooky experience to help get everyone in the Halloween spirit. The Oakville Haunted House is an outdoor display that provides a great Halloween experience for the whole family.
Now in its 26th year, Oakville Haunted House is open every night from October 16th to the 31st from 7 pm to 10 pm and has been designed to give children a great Halloween experience while also inspiring them to carry on spooky traditions into adulthood.
Teamed with the Oakville Fareshare Food Bank, the Oakville Haunted House accepts non-perishable and financial contributions to help offer a helping hand to the less fortunate in the community. Over the years the event has funded the Food Bank with thousands of dollars, and several tons of food.
